NordPass Review 2025: Is It Any Good?
NordPass is a password manager with a good reputation for its security and usability. Being simple in design and available on all major platforms, many have embraced it as their go-to password manager.
If you’re looking for a password manager that has never been hacked, this is it. With NordPass, you can be sure that all your personal information is safe from both hackers and NordPass employees.
In this NordPass review, we’ll look at the features of this password manager to find out whether it’s worth your money and time.
What We Think of NordPass
NordPass dedicates a lot of effort to ensuring the safety and privacy of its users’ data.
The password manager works with industry experts to audit their systems and operations, and has been recognized for its secure systems.
Moreover, having embraced the XChaCha20 encryption algorithm, NordPass is providing a superior experience to its customers without compromising on security.
What is NordPass?
NordPass is a password manager developed by Nord Security, the company behind NordVPN, one of the best VPN services.
Launched in 2019, NordPass is based in Panama, a country that has no mandatory data retention laws.
Also, Panama is not part of any of the existing intelligence alliances. This means that NordPass—and its sister products—are safe from government requirements to share user data.
NordPass Features
Before writing this NordPass review, we researched the password manager’s website and tested the app to see what it offers. We found that other than password management, NordPass has all the features you need for an easier life online.
Let’s take a look at them.
Password Manager
Being a password manager, the main feature of NordPass is saving passwords and auto-filling online forms. Here are the tools that work to make password management easy.
Password Vault
The NordPass app is a secure vault for your encrypted passwords and other personal information. Although the main purpose is to store all your passwords, it can also store documents and credit cards.
The NordPass vault is built using a zero-knowledge architecture. This means that your personal information is encrypted on your device before being uploaded to the cloud.
This process ensures that you’re the only one who can see what’s inside your vault—even NordPass employees can’t.
Password Generator
NordPass is one of the best password generators out there. It lets you create strong passwords using either random characters or words.
For passwords based on random characters, you can choose the length and whether to include capital letters, numbers, and symbols.
The NordPass password generator includes four buttons that help you manage your passwords. With these, you can generate passwords, copy them for pasting in a form, and save them. You can also view the history of the passwords you’ve copied or saved.
For a words-based password, you can choose the number of words and whether to include capital letters and numbers. This password generator can separate the words using an underscore, hyphen, space, comma, or period.
Like the characters-based passwords, you can also generate new passwords from this window, copy and save them, and view the password history.
Passkeys
Passkeys are a relatively new authentication method that many websites and applications have embraced. With passkeys, your login credentials are tied to the website or app, helping you avoid logging in to scam websites.
To know whether you can use passkeys on a website or app, look for the option of creating one when signing up for an account.
On some websites and apps, you can create a passkey by choosing the option of logging in using a security device. Passkeys can also work as a Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) option.
NordPass Security and Privacy
To be a trusted password manager, NordPass needs to meet very high security and privacy expectations. Here’s how it deals with security and privacy.
Password Health Checker
NordPass checks the vulnerability of the passwords you’ve stored in your vault. If it finds vulnerable passwords, it will highlight them under three categories.
Here is what the three vulnerability categories mean.
- Weak passwords: These passwords are short and do not contain a mix of lower and uppercase letters, numbers, and symbols.
- Reused passwords: These are passwords that are being used on more than one account.
- Old passwords: These are passwords that are older than 90 days.
To change your vulnerable passwords, click on the relevant tabs to get to the list of passwords.
When you hover your mouse over any of the records, you’ll see a link to the website whose password is vulnerable. Although you can go straight to the website and edit your login details, it’s easier to create a new password using the built-in password generator.
To do this, click the account name (e.g. linkedin.com) and NordPass will open the password editing page of that account.
Click on ‘Generate Password’ and use the NordPass password generator to create a strong password. You can copy the password and then go to the respective website to replace the vulnerable password with the new one.
Data Encryption and Storage
NordPass is one of the tech companies spearheading the adoption of the new encryption algorithm known as XChaCha20.
In terms of security, both the standard AES-256 and XChaCha20 algorithms are secure. This is because they both use secret keys that are 256-bit long. However, since XChaCha20 doesn’t require specialized hardware and is faster, it provides a better user experience.
If you want to learn more about the difference between these two technologies, read NordPass’ excellent comparison of XChaCha20 Encryption vs AES-256.
Data Breach Scanner
Another security feature you’ll find in this password manager is the data breach scanner.
With this tool, whenever there’s a data breach, NordPass will scan the exposed data and notify you if your data is part of the breach. This allows you to act quickly to change your login details and prevent unauthorized access to your online accounts.
Email Masking
Since phishing attacks are on the increase, you can hide your email address using email masking.
With email masking, NordPass not only keeps your real email address private but also helps you avoid spam.

Security Audits
NordPass is ranked highly as a secure password manager, and one of the reasons is that it has never been hacked. One of the likely reasons for this is that NordPass frequently subjects itself to third-party audits to identify vulnerabilities and areas of improvement.
Some of the recent audits that NordPass has passed include the SOC 2 Type 1 and Type 2 audits, as well as an independent audit by the cybersecurity firm Cure53.
Multi-Factor Authentication
While securing your NordPass vault requires a strong password, true security starts with having Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). This password manager gives you three options.
- Authenticator apps: NordPass supports all the major authenticator apps, including Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, and Authy.
- Security keys: USB security keys are becoming more common and NordPass has embraced them. Being hardware-based, they provide more security and privacy.
- Backup codes: These come in handy when you don’t have access to an authenticator app or your security key.
To set up Multi-Factor Authentication, visit the Settings page and scroll down to the Security section. Locate the MFA option and toggle the switch to ‘On’.
You’ll then be taken to the Nord account settings page to set up MFA using an authenticator app and a security key.
After this, every time you log in to your NordPass account, you’ll need to verify your identity using the MFA option you set.
Note that to access your NordPass vault, you can use biometric authentication in place of your Master Password. This adds convenience and security to the information in your vault.
Secure Sharing
There are moments when you need to give someone else access to your passwords. This can happen if, for instance, you’re part of a team making purchases using the same card.
Whatever the situation, NordPass lets you share passwords safely. Just hover over the item with your mouse, click the three dots that appear on the right side of the item, and click ‘Share’.
After clicking ‘Share’, you’ll be prompted to type the email address of the intended recipient. You’ll also need to choose whether to grant the recipient full or limited rights over the item.
Note that with limited rights, although the recipient can’t see sensitive information like the actual password, they can still log in to accounts using the autofill feature.
Another secure password-sharing option is giving someone else emergency access to your NordPass web vault. This person must have an active NordPass account.
To do this, click ‘Emergency Access’ in the Tools menu, followed by ‘Give Access’.
In the window that opens, you’ll type the email address of the person you want to give access to your vault. The email address must be the same as the one the recipient used to register for their NordPass account.
Secure Notes, Folders, and File Attachments
If you’ve ever wanted a safe place to store your most sensitive documents, NordPass can help.
With Secure Notes, Folders, and file attachments, this password manager shows that it can secure more than passwords.
When adding a secure note, you can create a new folder to save the note in, and even add custom fields for the note.
When creating a custom field, in the ‘Field Type’ section, you can choose between ‘Text’ and ‘Hidden Text’. The hidden text option is for fields such as passwords, and the details entered in that field will be replaced by asterisks.
After creating a secure note, you can add a file attachment to it. You can also add file attachments to any item in your vault, including passwords and credit cards.
NordPass gives you up to 3GB of storage space. You can have up to 50 attachments per item, with 50MB being the maximum allowed size per file.
To maximize the security of your private files, NordPass restricts attaching files to shared items. Similarly, you won’t be able to share items that have files attached to them.
To organize your saved items, you can create folders and add items to them.
Importing and Exporting Data
NordPass lets you import passwords from most of the best password managers. You can also import passwords from browser-based password managers.
To import passwords, click the Settings icon and scroll to the ‘Import and Export’ section.
Clicking the Import tab will open a window from where you can choose the source of your password file.
If you’re importing passwords from a source other than the ones listed in the window, select ‘Other’. This option requires a bit more work since you may need to format your password file in a way that NordPass can import. Fortunately, NordPass provides a guide on how to do it.
If you want to export the contents of your NordPass vault, just click on ‘Export items’. You’ll be asked to enter your master password and then your vault’s contents will be downloaded in a csv file.
NordPass for Business
If you’re a security-conscious business owner or an admin in your company, NordPass has a solution for you. With NordPass, you can manage the password policy of your organization and monitor actions in your vault using activity logs.
In this NordPass review, we’ll look at two of the most important features you’ll get with a NordPass business account.
Admin Dashboard
The admin dashboard gives you a summary of your company’s state of security as far as passwords are concerned. It also shows you the state of the accounts of other NordPass users in your company.
From the dashboard, you can resend invitations to members, reactivate suspended accounts, and monitor the vulnerability of the passwords stored in your company’s vault.
You also get a report on whether any of your company’s email addresses or passwords have been exposed in a data breach.
NordPass Authenticator
You’ll be happy to know that NordPass has a built-in authenticator. This feature eliminates the need for a third-party authenticator app.
To use the NordPass authenticator, login to a 2FA-protected account using the NordPass autofill feature. When prompted for a one-time password (OTP), click on the account in NordPass and use your fingerprint to unlock the code.
In cases where team members are sharing a password, NordPass lets them generate their two-factor codes. This ensures flexibility and enhanced security.
NordPass Pricing
NordPass has different price plans for personal and business customers. Here are the prices for personal and family use.
Free plan is best if you only need basic features such as autosave and autofill, password generation, and automatic sync across devices.
Premium plan is best if you need premium features such as scanning the web for data leaks and giving access to your passwords during emergencies.
Family plan should be your choice if you want to share passwords with your family members. You can add up to 6 NordPass user accounts.
Here are the NordPass business plans.
Teams plan is best if you have a team of up to 10 NordPass users, need to set company-wide password policies, and use Google Workspace SSO.
Business plan is best if you want group management features and access to the security dashboard from where you can run data breach scans.
Enterprise plan is best if you want shared folders, a dedicated account manager, and alternatives to Google Workspace SSO.
Ease of Use
Although security tools can be difficult to use, using NordPass is easy.
After creating your account, NordPass guides you through the initial steps of getting everything up and running.
Going to the ‘Passwords’ section, you’re welcomed with the promise that you won’t need to deal with password resets anymore.
To add a password, just type the website and password then click save. And being the convenient tool that it is, you can use the NordPass password generator to create a strong password for each account.
You can also import passwords from most password managers in case you’re switching from other tools.
And if you’re wondering about the user experience on the NordPass mobile app, here’s what that looks like. It’s the same for both the iOS and Android apps.
The NordPass mobile app gives you access to all the features available in the desktop version.
The NordPass desktop app is available on Windows, MacOS, and Linux. You can also access your password vault through the web.
Alternatively, you can install the NordPass browser extension. Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, and Opera are supported.
Whichever platform you’re on, using NordPass is a breeze.
Customer Support
This NordPass review won’t be complete without checking what customer support options this password manager provides.
As it turns out, the first place NordPass users are expected to go for answers is the help center page. Here, you’ll find guides on how to use the password manager and troubleshoot any issues that arise.
If you prefer chatting with customer support, a live chat option is available. You can also open a ticket or send an email. If you however want to speak with an agent over the phone, you’re out of lack since phone support is not available.
In our opinion though, the NordPass app is designed well and is simple to use. You’ll probably never even need to contact customer support.
